Oh Dear

I have an illness. It’s a bridal disease known as Martha Stewart Syndrome. I just bought The White Issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, a MAGAZINE, mind you, for 20 freaking dollars. I have another one on auction for $30 that WILL BE MINE!!!!

And I’m not a dumb girl, really I’m not. I totally know you can go to your neighborly library and flip through all the past Martha Stewart Wedding issues you can get your hands on and make copies to your little dime toting heart’s content but oh no, not me. I must have full on access to ripping apart the magazine and saving all the ideas that appeal to me. I have not one but two ideas for wedding favors and my budget bridal book says to drop favors to save money. I am doing the opposite of saving money. I’m buying $20 magazines. And do I really think I will cut up a $20 magazine.

I actually for the first time in my life tried to cash in on my work connections. Since I no longer work for the company I don’t know if it will pan out but if it does I could have a huge savings to make up for my magazine lack of sensibility.

Here’s pictures of the 0rton Plantation chapel. It is so very pretty.

Engaging News

Let’s see if I can stay on task for at least one thing I wanted to start today. I tried procrastinating and watching television but there’s nothing on so here I am.

Bella is on full chirp mode and it’s distracting me.

I’ve thought and thought of some clever way to write about what’s been going on in my life in the past couple weeks and I’ve come up with nothing.

On Monday, April 11 MLG and I were at home and I was fishing around the freezer trying to look interested in cooking something for dinner. I offered some frozen wings and he said to wait a while to decide. He was in the office and put on “Til There Was You” by The Beatles that we never claimed to be a non-cheesy song but somehow found ourselves singing to each other one night early in our relationship and it became a thing between us that we do all the time, break out into Til There Was You. I knew this meant something. MLG called me into the dining room where I found him with his hand in his pocket. Before I had time to freak out in my head he got down on one knee and said, “I don’t have anything prepared…” I forgot the rest because he pulled out a box and opened it revealing the diamond setting of my dreams, just as I told him when he asked me a while back what I liked. He asked me very sweetly to marry him.

When I said yes went to hug him and I reached for him I knocked into his hand and the ring went flying one way and the box went flying another way. You could hear it ping, ping, ping across the floor. I flew over him to retrieve the ring and then certain I blew some major superstition asked him to take it quick and place it on my finger.

We got up and hugged and kissed a hundred times and said, “Wow, this feels so surreal,” about a hundred times. I said, “maybe I should call my mom.” I went to call her and told her on the phone, “Mom, I no longer have a boyfriend.” She said, “What?” and I said, “I have a fiance!” She was incredibly happy and I was wandering back towards MLG who was by the front door and I looked out and there was a horse drawn carriage waiting out in front of the house.

“I have to go! There’s a carriage waiting out front.”

We took a carriage ride all around downtown, a place we both love and made a stop at the pavilion where we first met on our first date and then were let off at the restaurant downtown where we had our first date. We sat out on a balcony and watched the sun set. The we walked for icecream and drove over to my mom’s to show her the ring.

Wednesday we left for College Station, Texas to visit MLG’s sister and family through Sunday. It was weird to go through such an experience and then immediately leave for vacation. I wanted to move in, I wanted to bring the kitties over, I wanted to plan the wedding.

We brought the cats over on Sunday night when we returned. Aidan let out his death howl for a few hours and then settled right in. It’s been a completely natural transition back for the cats. They remember their old favorite spots and once they went down the stairs once they totally remembered how to do it.

This past Saturday we moved my stuff in from storage and the micro apartment. I was so completely stressed out but everything went fine and no major pieces of furniture were completely damaged. My coffee table has some scratches that I’m not happy about but it could have been much worse. Right after we moved in we went on our first wedding planning excursion to 0rton Plantation. I was glad to leave the disorganized chaos of freshly moving in to go to a lush plantation garden and fantasize about a dream wedding. We ended up getting in for free since we were interest in having our wedding there. I adore the church. It’s the most shabby chic looking church I’ve ever seen. It’s old and white and painted a pale pale blue on the inside. The bathroom facilities are non-electric, there’s no lights and it’s completely open to bugs, which freaks me out a bit. There are no sites for the reception so it requires a tent, which from everything I’ve read is like the most expensive way to have a reception. The garden is beautiful and provides many places for photos. I’d really love to marry here but it’s certainly not the easiest or budgetary way to marry. I’ll try to post some photos tomorrow.

I also heard The Book was out and went to check out my local bookstore but they said it wasn’t coming out until May. I reserved a copy to which MLG thought was funny and asked if Bono has to go to a record store to buy How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb but I was so excited that the guy was treating it like a normal book, like it was going to actually be put out on the shelves with multiple copies and stuff. Wow!

I’ve been working on this for a little while and didn’t want to share it until I knew for certain that this would be my home but here is The Blog I’ll be keeping for the house - all the improvements and renovations and paint selections. So far I’ve moved all the old pictures over. If you aren’t familiar with the house or want to get some background start from the archives. I started with the first room renovated to the present. I'm not going to start another blog for the wedding. It's more life related, though arguably the house is too, so I'm going to keep it part of this blog. If it's any consolation, I want to be a size 10 by the wedding, which will be in October. So there will be diet stuff, I swear!

Otherwise Engaged

Oh god, I apologize for my absence. Things started moving at lightning speed and I can't seem to find the time to write. My goal is to be back on Monday writing 5 days a week. I just have to get through this weekend first.
